9/11 Families Stunned by Presidents Support of Mosque at Ground Zero

New York, NY, Aug. 14 — Barack Obama has abandoned America at the place where America’s heart was broken nine years ago, and where her true values were on display for all to see. Since that dark day, Americans have been asked to bear the burden of defending those values, again and again and again. Now this president declares that the victims of 9/11 and their families must bear another burden. We must stand silent at the last place in America where 9/11 is still remembered with reverence or risk being called religious bigots.

Muslims have worshipped in New York without incident both before and after the attacks of 9/11. This controversy is not about religious freedom. 9/11 was more than a “deeply traumatic event,” it was an act of war. Building a 15-story mosque at Ground Zero is a deliberately provocative act that will precipitate more bloodshed in the name of Allah. Those who continue to target and kill American civilians and U.S. troops will see it as a symbol of their historic progress at the site of their most bloody victory. Demolishing a building that was damaged by wreckage from one of the hijacked planes in order to build a mosque and Islamic Center will further energize those who regard it as a ratification of their violent and divinely ordered mission: the spread of shariah law and its subjugation of all free people, including secular Muslims who come to this country fleeing that medieval ideology, which destroys lives and crushes the human spirit.

We are stunned by the president’s willingness to disregard what Americans should be proud of: our enduring generosity to others on 9/11–a day when human decency triumphed over human depravity. On that day, when 3,000 of our fellow human beings were killed in barbaric act of raw religious intolerance unlike this country had ever seen, Americans did not turn outward with hatred or violence, we turned to each other, armed with nothing more than American flags and countless acts of kindness. In a breathtakingly inappropriate setting, the president has chosen to declare our memories of 9/11 obsolete and the sanctity of Ground Zero finished. No one who has lived this history and felt the sting of our country’s loss that day can truly believe that putting our families through more wrenching heartache can be an act of peace.

We will honor the memory of our loved ones. We will protect our children, whose lives will never be the same. We will not stand silent.

Once again Obama has betrayed the United States. We MUST blunt his teeth in November!

tysm August 14, 2010 at 9:28 am

Forget November. This man must be impeached now. And if Congress wont do it. The American people will.

Brits Armymom August 14, 2010 at 9:33 am

It is time for our nation’s great hearts and minds to lend their wise articulation to reason and stop this madness. Common sense is being obliterated by lawfare and elite condescension. Thank you, Ms. Burlingame, for standing watch and speaking out against this obscenity.

To the 9/11 families:

With all due respect and continuing to mourn your losses (which affect all of us):

You’re “stunned”? Have you been blind so long? We knew who and what this Obama person was before he became a US Senator. We read his books, and knew that he meant it when he wrote that in a dispute between the American People and Islam, he would side with Islam. You’re “stunned”, and we EXPECTED IT.

To those of you who voted for him: be ashamed, and be afraid of what he’ll do next. Or educate yourselves on who and what Obama is so that the next time he does what the rest of us are already predicting, you won’t be so “stunned”.

Bill, a reader, writes:

Did you guys see who was with Obama when he made his Mosque speech … Check out these folks:

Ingrid Mattson, the head of a Muslim Brotherhood satellite organization, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), that was identified by the Justice Department as an unindicted coconspirator in a terrorism financing case (and was proved, in fact, to have sent money to Hamas);

Salam al-Marayati, a self-described supporter of Hezbollah (and one Steve Emerson aptly describes as an anti-anti-terrorist); and

Dalia Mogahed, an apologist for sharia’s subjugation of women who has embraced ISNA, CAIR and other Islamist groups in her role as an Obama appointee to the President’s Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

This man has to be thrown out of office as soon as possible. His whole admin is extremely dangerous to the country.

BigL August 14, 2010 at 10:30 am

Some State Constitutions have a clause or statute that allow citizens to act as “private attorneys general”. If NY state has that then a citizen can file on the Mosque. Prob the judges are too scared to turn it down. But at least it might spread the blame and we might get some discovery out of the suits.

JustSaying August 14, 2010 at 10:58 am

My heart breaks as well…this is just one more nail in our side from this man who calls himself President. He knows exactly what he is doing every step of the way…well all knew or felt bad vibes about him in 2008…who he is, how did he get to where he is today, what does he stands for…his plan is being slowly unravelled right before our eyes. Obama is where he is today because of all the voters that fell for his “smooth talking jive”…to them, it was refreshing, cool and new…Obama is not the threat…the people that elected this man are the threat..if things don’t turn around in November, it will only give him the incentive to continue on his trek to dismantle our country. Ground Zero is sacred ground to all of us…for him to step into the fray once again and tell us how we should think only enforced, to me, his arrogance.
Just remember, there are more of us than of him…we need to keep fighting for what is right.

I am speechless. I didn’t vote for obama because while mccain was a horrible alternative (imo), after long looks obama seemed utterly unfit/unprepared to occupy the most powerful position on the planet. a man with virtually no experience in anything substantive and clearly a slick politician whose ambition was second only to his solidly left-wing ideology. to this day I still cannot believe this guy was elected president. while I put the chances at 20%/80% against, I hoped his post-racial/post-partisan rhetoric was true but was not at all surprised it was nothing but a clever new way of a politician saying anything to get elected.

but even with my low expectations, this seems beyond the pale and could not believe if he felt this way he wouldn’t just keep quiet about it. so I’m stunned he did not. I’m not sure even carter would’ve done something as needlessly provocative as this; it’s bad enough to be repeatedly embarrassed by obama’s foolish and degrading bowing to tyrannical leaders but at least that was outside america. but here he again bows, on our own soil and for one of the most senseless things I can imagine. have we ever in history had a president this out-of-touch? absolutely unbelievable. and to be lectured by him on top of it. wow.

Max17 August 14, 2010 at 12:02 pm

No surprise here. Obumbler is simply doing what Obumbler does best – the wrong thing.

steve August 14, 2010 at 12:15 pm

We need to look at the bright side of Obama’s point: Every Dem running this Nov needs to be asked if he supports the President’s view. You know, “the leader of your party supports the GZM, do you? And if not, will you sign this petition to help organize funds to protest against it?” It’s a win/win and if the president wants to play politics, let the games begin.

But at the end of the day, the right to peacefully protest everyday in front of the mosque (if built) will go along way to showing tolerance. And afterwards, we all head over to Greg Gutfeld’s gay islamic bar across the street.

George A. Crispin August 14, 2010 at 12:18 pm

To all whose heart was broken on 9/11 by a loss beyond measure, and to the Amnerican people, the President’s stance, and those who stand with him, in regard to building a mosque within feet of the greatest attack on American soil, my heart goes out to you. My email has been clicking all day to those in power who might stop this insensitive insanity. This issue before the American people is not only the election of 2010 and 2012, but how much further damage can this President and his cohords do to America.

AnnaS August 14, 2010 at 12:29 pm

At least he is consistent–hopefully people will begin to notice–he waits to see what the American people WANT and he does the OPPOSITE! Wake-up America–throw this man out of office! He said in his book (likely written by others), that he will stand with the Muslims…

Barbara Lee August 14, 2010 at 12:40 pm

Our treasured friend, 31 years old and recently married, was murdered that day in a savage act of war. The President of the United States has forgotten, but we will not forget. He gives lip service to love of country and respect for our citizens but his actions reveal his contempt for all Americans who do not toe his line. He cannot be gone soon enough for me.

TLO August 14, 2010 at 12:43 pm

Shocking. Absolutely shocking, that a United States President would stand up and defend one of the CORE tenets of the United States Constitution.

The notion that because some religious extremists attacked this country, we should blame anyone who practices the same religious faith is pure religious bigotry. There isn’t any other way to say it.

The functional equivalent would be to say that because Timothy McVeigh was a fundamentalist Christian, that we should ban churches from being built near the Murrah Building site. Would that be outrageous? Crazy? Of course it would. What you people are arguing is exactly the same thing.

Need I remind you that some of the Americans who died on 9/11, to whose families you think our president is being insensitive, were Muslim? Or does that not matter to you. Perhaps it is only Christian Americans whom you care about.

You people need to learn something about the Constitution and about what this country really stands for.

Editor —

TLO: Need we remind you that 19 sharia-complying Muslims and their co-conspirators, who share(d) the same ideology with Imam Rauf, slaughtered 2,976 people on 9/11?

McVeigh was not following religious dogma when he slaughtered 168 innocent men, women, and children on April 19, 1995; he was a sociopath and anti-government, “revenge” seeking mass-murderer.

Multitude August 14, 2010 at 1:01 pm

One can only be stunned if one had expected otherwise all along, and to do so with President Obama is to ignore what he and the progressive movement have both been saying and doing for quite some time.

Progressivism correctly recognizes that the capitalist excess of America’s past 100 years must end, particularly given the over-subscription of debt and over-consumption by private citizens. Given an inevitable inability to repay over $110 trillion in unfunded obligations, powerful individuals and institutions must be protected from the upcoming collapse, particularly when the citizenry discover they’ve been sold into slavery by both political parties (essentially by different flavors of the same elite). From George Soros to George Bush, both recognize a yoke and cattle prod is necessary to protect the institutions of power from pending anarchy.

President Obama (along with other progressives such as Mayor Bloomberg) strongly relates to the fundamentalist biopower control that Islam provides, having repeatedly supported Sharia law, recognizing its vital power in controlling and dominating the middle and lower classes. Between biopower “carrots” of healthcare to “sticks” of Sharia, cap and trade, taxation, union card check, domestic surveillance, etc., the regime advanced by both parties is one of total control.

The complaints of a few suffering families over symbolism will never resonate when the interests of the powerful are jeopardized. In the words of Janet Napolitano, “sit down, shut up and recognize your place.”

Morgan August 14, 2010 at 1:09 pm

The following (below) is from Muslimhope.com.

Keep in mind the people who use moral equivalence to state that the ruthlessness of Islam’s founder is analogous to the violent parts of the history of Christianity. But such behavior went against the teachings of Christ.

Can the same be said about Islam and Mohammed?

—————————–

Assassinations Ordered By Mohammed

Mohammed did not just fight defensively, and he did not just honorably engage people in open battle. He also ordered many assassinations. Here is a list taken from the collections of authoritative Sunni hadiths and the early Muslim historian al-Tabari. After mentioning each assassination and quoting from sources, where known this will give the background and rationale for the assassination.

Assassination of Ka’b bin Ashraf

Reason given: Sahih Muslim vol.3 no.4436 p.990-991 says that Ka’b b. Ashraf “has maligned Allah, the Exalted, and His Messenger.” Bukhari says that Ka’b bin Ashraf in an unspecified way harmed Allah [he harmed God?] and his apostle. However, since Allah was “harmed” this was probably not a violent or military thing Ka’b did, but more likely saying Mohammed was not really from Allah.

Assassination of Abu Rafi’

Reason given: Bukhari vol.5 book 59 no.371 p.251 says, “Abu Rafi’ used to hurt Allah’s Apostle and help his enemies against him. He lived in his castle in the land of Hijaz.” So this was probably for military reasons. Tabari says, “The reason for his being killed was, it is said, that he used to take the part of Ka’b b. al-Ashraf against the Messenger of God.”

Assassination of People Not Under Muslim Rule

If someone criticizes a leader, and they do not live under the control of that leader, should they be killed? If a Muslim criticized a non-Muslim leader, does the non-Muslim have the right to kill the Muslim? If a non-Muslim criticized Mohammed, should the non-Muslim be assassinated? That is what Mohammed ordered. This may be why assassinations and killings are so common in some Muslim countries today.

Al-Harith ibn Suwayd ibn Samit was another opponent murdered at Muhammad’s instigation. This set off something of a chain reaction. One Abu Afak, annoyed at the incident, composed a satire defending the ancestors of those who were disaffected at the Prophet which prompted him to respond “Who will deal with this rascal for me?” at which another of his companions, Salim ibn `Umayr, went forth and slaughtered him.

Attempted Assassination of Abu Sufyan

Reason: None is explicitly given, but Abu Sufyan was the commander of the forces of Mecca.

“The story of ‘Amr b. Umayyah al-Damri, when he was sent by the Messenger of God to kill Abu Sufyan b. Harb.

When the men whom the Prophet had sent to ‘Adal and al-Qarah were killed at al-Raji’ and the news reached the Messenger of God, he sent ‘Amr b. Umayyah al-Damri and one of the Ansar to Mecca, ordering them to kill Abu Sufyan b. Harb….” They circumambulated the Ka’aba, using that ritual as a pretense that they came to Mecca to worship. The Meccans suspected them, and they were unsuccessful.

Assassination of al-Aswad (= Dhu al-Khimar ‘Abhalah b. Ka’b)

Reason given: Claimed he was a prophet.

Mohammed ordered the assassination of al-Aswad al-Tabari vol.9 p.167 Al-Aswad was assassinated because he claimed that he was a prophet, after coming out of the Khubban cave. He was killed a day or two before Mohammed’s death.

Assassination of Khalid b. Sufyan

Reason given: al-Tabari vol.9 p.121 says that Mohammed said word had reached him that Khalid b. Sufyan was gathering a force to attack Mohammed.

“The Messenger of God called me and said, ‘It has reached me that Khalid b. Sufyan b. Nubayh al-Hudhali is gathering a force to attack me. He is either in Nakhlah or ‘Uranah, so go to him and kill him.’” al-Tabari vol.9 p.121

Killing Yusayr b. Rizam

Reason given: Mohammed did not order this one. The Muslims with Yusayr “sensed” that he had second thoughts about making peace with Mohammed, so they killed him. Mohammed in al-Tabari vol.9 p.120

Killing of the Chieftain of Dumah

In Mohammed’s lifetime the Muslims made a surprise attack on an unsuspecting Christian king [chieftain] of Dumah and he was killed. al-Tabari vol.9 p.58-59

Mohammed Ordered Torture to Find Where a Man Buried His Treasure

This was not an assassination, but was still very heinous.

According to Ibn Ishaq: Kinanah b. al-Rabi’ b. Abi al-Huqayq who had the treasure of the Banu al-Nadir, was brought to the Messenger of God, who questioned him, but he denied knowing where it [the treasure] was.

The Messenger of God said to Kinanah: “What do you say? If we find it in your possession, I will kill you.

“All right he answered. The Messenger of God commanded that the ruin should be dug up, and some of the treasure was extracted from it. Then he asked him for the rest of it.

Kinanah refused to surrender it, so the Messenger of God gave orders concerning him to al-Zubayr b. al-‘Awwam, saying, “Torture him until you root out what he has.”

Al-Zubayr kept twirling his firestick in his breast until Kinanah almost expired [died]; then the Messenger of God gave him to Muhammad b. Maslamah, who beheaded him to avenge his brother Mahmud b. Maslamah.” al-Tabari vol.8 p.122

TLO: Timothy McVeigh was NOT a fundamentalist Christian, nor a Christian at all, according to his own words. He was raised in a Roman Catholic household, but later stopped practicing any religion and called himself an agnostic. This lie about McVeigh’s Christianity has been revealed as untrue many, many times, but continues to be used whenever it is deemed helpful to the argument of the person making it. Fortunately, not so many are fooled any longer.

Bloomberg, Obama, Rauf and the Media Establishment have falsely but successfully framed the issue as a question of religious freedom.
The issue at hand needs to be reframed as an issue of the failure of the State of New York to exercise its duty to use its power of eminent domain. At the moment that Muslim warriors attacked America on 9/11, the nature of the land surrounding the World Trade Center changed. It does not matter whether the land was owned by a religious or commercial enterprise. Any part of New York City where debris from the Twin Towers landed should have been declared by the State of New York to be part of the 9/11 Battlefield.
Although there were no American soldiers battling the invading Muslim soldiers during their suicide attack, the extent of the area of the NYC 9/11Battlefield needs to be defined. The State has the power of eminent domain to take for public use any part of the 9/11 Battlefield in order to build a Battlefield History Center. The property owners in question have established that the building that they own is not a building with preservation value as a piece of architecture. Therefore, the land should be an appropriate available location for the State of New York to build a Battlefield History Center.
The U.S. Supreme Court case of “Kelo v. City of New London” is a recent case where the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the exercise the right of eminent domain beyond what has been traditionally viewed as public use. There can be no doubt that acquiring 9/11 Battlefield land for the State’s use is appropriate. Below you will find evidence that America’s Chattering Elite care about what is built on commercial property even if it is located outside “but near” the entrance of a battlefield. The below referenced “group of 253 historians” must not care about what would be built within the 9/11Battlefield.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/civil-war/2009/may/16/us-news-world-report-weighs-in-on-wildernesswalmar/print/
The article, “US News & World Report Weighs in on Wilderness/Walmart Battle”, notes as follows: “In December, a group of 253 historians—including David McCullough, Ken Burns, James McPherson, and Edwin Bearss, the chief historian emeritus of the National Park Service—asked Wal-Mart to reconsider.”

Morgan August 14, 2010 at 1:50 pm

In my previous posting, I failed to include text that illustrates to an even greater degree the way that the founder of Islam (Muhammad) and people such as the terrorists of 9-11 really are not that fall apart when it comes to both a high degree of ruthlessness and a very vengeful theology:

The following is from Answering-islam.org:

The Quran looks down upon those who follow poets:

Shall I tell you, O people, on whom the shaitans descend? They descend on every slandering sinner. Those who listen to hearsay – and most of them are liars – and those poets who are followed by those who go astray. S. 26:221-224 F. Malik

In fact, Muhammad is reported to have made some pretty harsh statements about poetry:

Narrated Ibn ‘Umar: The Prophet said, “It is better for a man to fill the inside of his body with pus than to fill it with poetry.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 73, Number 175)

————–
In another hadith about a man who used to curse the Prophet, the Prophet said, “Who will save me from my enemy?” Khalid said, “I will,” so the Prophet sent him out and he killed him.

‘Abdu’r-Razzaq mentioned that a man cursed the Prophet, causing the Prophet to say, “Who will save me from my enemy?” Az-Zubayr said, “I will.” He sent az-Zubayr and he killed him.

It is related that a woman used to curse the Prophet and he said, “Who will save me from my enemy?” Khalid ibn al-Walid went out and killed her.

It is related that a man forged lies against the Prophet and he sent ‘Ali and az-Zubayr to kill him.

Ibn Qani’ related that a man came to the Prophet and said, “Messenger of Allah, I heard my father say something ugly about you, so I killed him,” and that did not distress him.

Ibn ‘Abbas said that a woman from Khatma satirised the Prophet and the Prophet said, “Who will deal with her for me?” A man from her people said, “I will, Messenger of Allah.” The man got up and went and killed her. He told the Prophet who said, “Two goats will not lock horns over me.” (Muhammad Messenger of Allah (Ash-Shifa of Qadi ‘Iyad), Qadi ‘Iyad Musa al-Yahsubi, translated by Aisha Abdarrahman Bewley [Madinah Press, Inverness, Scotland, U.K. 1991; third reprint, paperback], pp. 378-379)

Wallace Liechty August 14, 2010 at 2:02 pm

“Demolishing a building that was damaged by wreckage from one of the hijacked planes in order to build a mosque and Islamic Center will further energize those who regard it as a ratification of their violent and divinely ordered mission: the spread of shariah law and its subjugation of all free people, including secular Muslims who come to this country fleeing that medieval ideology, which destroys lives and crushes the human spirit. ”
Amen.
Taqqiya, Google it. I really do not believe that President Obama is unfamiliar with the meaning of the word or its practice.
I hope the speech under discussion here, will infuriate millions more Americans. He appointed a tax evader to lecture the rest of us about tax compliance, he sat under a hate spewing “preacher” for twenty years and now he lectures us on tolerance. Impeach him.

Fatty Bolger August 14, 2010 at 2:59 pm

@TLO – while I do believe that there is no legal foundation for stopping the mosque from being built (we still have some property rights left, even though leftists have been diluting them for years), your analogy is just stupid. McVeigh was not a fundamentalist Christian, and he was certainly not acting on behalf of any religious movement.

Polecat August 14, 2010 at 4:09 pm

George may have been an idiot, but Obama is downright dangerous for America! He requires impeachment at the least. His insensitivity and commitment to all that is black and Muslim does not represent the dominant population. Obama caters to the dangerous and defiant minority that hopes to destroy the foundation of civility and democracy in the West.

Art F August 14, 2010 at 4:30 pm

I am horrified by the president of the US backing the building of a mosque on the soil of their murder of 3000 americans. It only proves what Obama and wife thinks about a wonderful country.

Warren August 14, 2010 at 4:39 pm

The First Amendment
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
The Fifth Amendment
“No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”

The taking of property through the eminent domain process with just compensation provides due process of law. Private property may be taken for public use, with just compensation. The property owners in question have established that the building that they own is not a building with preservation value “as a piece of architecture”. The “building” in question is not “a religion”. If the State of New York takes the land and uses the land to build a new government building, it is neither establishing a religion nor prohibiting the free exercise of a religion. The First Amendment does not give a religious organization the right to build a building anywhere it chooses. If the State of New York wants to take the New York Times Building for a public use, the State can take it as long as it pays just compensation. Taking the New York Times Building for a public use through the eminent domain process with just compensation would not be “abridging the freedom of speech or of the press”.

Bloomberg, Obama, Rauf and the Media Establishment have falsely but successfully framed the issue as a question of religious freedom.

The issue at hand needs to be reframed as an issue of the failure of the State of New York to exercise its duty to use its power of eminent domain.

So far, Barack Obama has publicly rejected everything even remotely traditional to American culture. Muslims live here, but Islam has never “always been a part of America”. NOTHING Islamic is contained within either the Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, or the Constitution. The United States of America is a FREE nation of FREE people: free to CHOOSE our religion or reject religion, free to determine our own destiny, free and equal regardless of whether we are male or female, Christian or Jew.
NO Islamic nation on the face of God’s green earth offers that kind of “diversity: or “tolerance”. We will tolerate Islam here, we will never submit to it.

renee August 14, 2010 at 10:09 pm

ANY BODY THAT VOTED FOR OBAMA GOT EVEN HALF A CLUE YET? FIRST TIME SHAME ONE THEM, SECOND TIME SHAME ON US FOR ALLOWING THEM TO BUILD THIS AND ELECT OBAMA IN THE FIRST PLACE. HOW MANY OF YOU THAT VOTED FOR HIM HAD FRIENDS AND/ OR FAMILY KILLED AT GROUND ZERO? SHAME AND THE TRUE LIVING GOD’S WRATH UPON ANYONE WHO WOULD AGREE TO SUCH A THING.

In the November Election it is up to us all in this country to come out and change the course of history back and away from
these nuts!

Itbach al Musleem August 14, 2010 at 11:57 pm

Please know that the American people are behind you. There are HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of us that will do whatever it takes to fight this travesty, even if it means physically chaining ourselves to the property to prevent these Islamonazis from building their Victory Mosque.

Quranic-style “peace activism” against the Kuwaiti/Malaysian Islamonazi Faisal Rauf, his dirtbag wives (Daisy Kahn and the two he keeps in Malaysia), and his merry band of useless idiots may become the only option.

John.Frank August 15, 2010 at 5:52 am

In his speech on Friday evening, The President should have staunchly and eloquently defended the right of freedom of religion underscoring the project’s proponents “right” to build the 9/11 mosque.

He should then have pointed out that in wanting to build the project in the manner proposed as close as possible to Ground Zero, the proponents were improperly provoking the sensibilities of all Americans, that such an act was wrong, being an act of fitna under the Koran and that the proponents should rethink the project.

Instead, in hiding behind the fig leaf of religious freedom, he has thrown his support behind those who would ultimately like to see Sharia law prevail in America.

Sharia Law is a political, economic and religious ideology which must not be allowed to gain any further foothold in America. But this will happen with if this project is allowed to proceed.

Sharia Law totally contradicts everything that America stands for and which has made America a beacon of liberty, that shining city on a hill.

With the President’s refusal to urge the project’s proponents to rethink their plans, he has failed in his most fundamental duty.

Tom August 15, 2010 at 11:12 am

What part of America did Obama abandon? Standing up for the right of people to practice their religion?
Religious bigotry is the only reason this website exists. The tragedy of 9-11 does not give you license to deprive other people of their basic rights. The founders of this great nation would be deeply ashamed of your actions.

Warren August 15, 2010 at 1:11 pm

In Byron York’s 15 AUG 10 article, “Obama’s Clintonian speech pulls rug from under mosque supporters”, there is a paragraph as follows:
“But most mosque opponents concede the Muslim group’s legal right to place the mosque in the planned site. They just argue that it’s a terrible idea and have appealed to the organizers to cancel the project. At the iftar dinner, Obama cast his vote with the mosque builders. And then he pulled back.”

The next step by opponents needs to be reframing the issue from merely “stopping something” to “doing something”. Bloomberg has demonstrated that he does not understand the historical significance of 51 Park Place. If the mayor of New York City does not understand the historical significance of 51 Park Place, a 9/11 History Center is urgently needed. The current owners of 51 Park Place have indicated that they do not value the existing structure. The 51 Park Place lot, being within the penumbra of where the Twin Towers stood on 9/11, is a logical location for the State of New York to build a 9/11 History Center. Let Bloomberg, Obama, and Rauf be the opponents of the State of New York building a 9/11 History Center. Every politician that is asking to be elected in 2010 to any office within the State of New York should be asked whether they support or oppose the building of a 9/11 History Center at 51 Park Place. If the mayor of New York City doesn’t understand the historical significance of 51 Park Place, don’t we urgently need a 9/11 History Center for the sake of the children of the State of New York?

Barrack Hussein Obama – with a name like this what is America to expect? As a people we elected him , but not by my vote -America has made alot of mistakes -this probably tops them all !! We learn by our mistakes I hope we can recover from this one-we still have him until 2012–WHAT more does he have in store for us ??
Christians are people also–New Yorkers can endure only so much!
To build on a ground where Americans were killed by a murderiously religious society wrapped in the description of a cult, worshiping a God that is clearly not the one God Jehovah, the true Creator of the Universe. How can an American president do this without the proper recourse? We elected him -we can take him out !

Perhaps the tragedy of 911 is but a dim memory to those who support the building of the Mosque close to Ground Zero. It is my opinion the video of the planes plowing into the Twin Towers, the horrific, unbelievable nightmare should be rerun on the internet and cable stations. Painful as it will be, especially to those who lost loved ones, the country should be reminded WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE ATROCITIES.

A decade ago who could have imagined that today we would have a Jewish Mayor and a President with a Muslim middle name champion a Cordoba Mosque at Ground Zero where suicide Islamic terrorists destroyed some of America’s tallest buildings that were smack in the epicenter of Western civilization?
A Mayor who wishes to someday become President and a President who wishes to remain for a second term share in common a profound emotional illiteracy. Each is fueled by an elitist arrogance that presupposes they can overpower and sedate the deep psychological trauma created by that fateful September morning. We haven’t even finished finding and burying our dead let alone the memories of the generations of Americans that are currently still alive who directly participated in the drama and trauma of that event as well as the ongoing protracted aftermath that is almost as significant.
It is not conceivable that any religion would attempt to instigate this much public consternation in the name of tolerance and solidarity. It is the provocative demeanor of the entire enterprise that is telltale to an alternative motive. Can the protagonists think that Americans will feel comfortable when each and every day they would witness the Mosque call Muslims in prayer to face the City (Mecca) whose Country provided the very terrorists that used their faith as reason to destroy the neighborhood? Non muslims, under Saudi Law, are not even permitted to enter Mecca.
For nine years NYC cannot determine what will replace the Twin Towers. Cordoba would never take that long because it represents a statement of resolute resolve and determination to supplant and replace what it’s proselytizers victoriously destroyed. With Mayors and Presidents like Bloomberg and Obama Al Qaeda can lay down their arms. What is important is not just the event of September 11 but what follows hereafter. Should Cordoba be built the solidarity that America will demonstrate will not be with Islam but rather with the suicide Islamic terrorists that brought us this incredible distortion of reality in the first place.

My heart goes out to anyone personally affected by the 9/11 tragedy. My relatives in the twin towers were lucky enough to get out alive. However, if we continue to harbor a resentment for all Muslims in America, we will become the nation that Osama bin laden tries to paint us as. We CANNOT fold on our morals. We are the greatest country on the planet BECAUSE we tolerate others with different ways of life and we DON’T (read: try) equate large groups with psychotic fringe groups.

If the money/funding for this COMMUNITY CENTER ends up being shady, that’s another story. But until then, I will support its building- BECAUSE we are Americans and we lead the world by example so other groups/nations don’t BECOME like the current terrorist groups.

I lost my brother on the 92nd floor of the WTC, north tower. David William Nelson.

I am appalled at what you are doing and what you stand for.

You are politicizing the death of our loved ones. You are preaching hatred and religious intolerance, just like the people that killed my brother.

Your goals are completely opposed the principles this country was founded. You are truly un-American.

A while back Muslims were whining about the “lack of respect from Americans.” Muslims had a chance to show Americans that they were sympathetic to a valid request by thousands of Americans, but instead they are chosing to take the bully road and push through the mosque on legal grounds. “We don’t care about your feelings, this is what we want and we will get it.” We will remember that when you whine about the lack of respect from Americans. America has thousands of mosques, they will become the symbol of religious intolerance…

A chilling explanation of Islam and their determination to get their way at any price. Watch this and be afraid, very afraid of Obama’s intentions and plans.

Since we have been fighting for years since the attack at that site, i would suggest the State of New York use it’s power under Eminet Domain, obtain the property, and build a state of the art veterans hospital there or something appropiate that would fall under the eminent domain guidelines.

Would we build a nuclear reactor at Hiroshima? …No!
Would we invade Israel? …No!
Should a Mosque be put up at the 9/11 site? …NO!

I for one am OUTRAGED to see this take place and to see the person who is supposed to stand up for America and her people turn his back to us! Everyone I have spoken with regarding this issue shares my feelings but what I find is the greatest tragedy is the fact that they are not surprised by Obama’s stand. But what can we do? WE CAN STAND together, arm in arm, human to human, heart to heart! WE WILL NEVER FORGET!! GOD BLESS AMERICA

My thoughts and prayers go with you this day. Please do your best to stop the spread of Islam; it is a pernicious disease eating away at the fabric of civilisation.

God Bless you all and America.
